Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! It was wonderful to have all of our students on campus for the first day of school yesterday. The excitement of reuniting with friends after summer and the opportunity to make new friends is always great to see. We extend a warm welcome to our new families and hope that you ask lots of questions and get involved in our school community.

A special Thank you to our Leopard Day Co-chairs Julie Thornton and Mia Hansen for all of their hard work orchestrating a fun and festive afternoon to welcome families to school! We are also grateful for a lovely Welcome Back Coffee for our parents sponsored by the P.T.A. and organized by Jennifer Flowers andKari Speltz.

Hopefully the first day jitters turned into fun memories shared at the dinner table last night. No doubt there are many questions about the new school year…...so please be sure to attend Back to School Night next Wednesday evening! This is a parent only event…..kids get the night off from school.

With all of the projects that happened on campus over the summer, our custodial team was left with a very short amount of time to deep clean and put a sparkle to our campus…...many, many thanks to Mr. Dave and Mr. Kiet for their endless dedication to our school.

At our Welcome Back to School Assembly for 2nd-5th graders, we reviewed the 6 Pillars of Character that form the basis of our school motto, “Creating a Culture of Kindness”. These Pillars include: Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Trustworthiness, Fairness and Citizenship. After reviewing the Pillars, I called up one student from each grade level to share what they thought was most important for us all to remember. I want to share how the students responded:

“I think it’s most important to treat others how you want to be treated.”

"I think Kindness is most important.”

"Responsibility and respect" were named by another student.

Another student answered, “Trustworthy”

Clearly our Lafayette Leopards have much wisdom to share…..we are proud of them all!

Wishing you all a great first week back to school!

Best,

Ann Kim
