What is mindfulness?
What is mindfulness?
  • Anyone can do it. Mindfulness practice cultivates universal human qualities and does not require anyone to change their beliefs. Everyone can benefit and it’s easy to learn.
  • It’s a way of living.  Mindfulness is more than just a practice. It brings awareness and caring into everything we do—and it cuts down needless stress. Even a little makes our lives better.
  • It’s evidence-based. We don’t have to take mindfulness on faith. Both science and experience demonstrate its positive benefits for our health, happiness, work, and relationships.
  • It sparks innovation. As we deal with our world’s increasing complexity and uncertainty, mindfulness can lead us to effective, resilient, low-cost responses to seemingly intransigent problems.

Growth Mindset and Mindfulness

Accountable Talk

Accountable Talk empowers students to learn how to respect the views of others while strengthening their communication skills. They get to practice being good conversationalists, participating in conversations in a polite manner, and to draw up healthy arguments based on evidence.

Practice having an accountable conversation with your child by asking some questions.  Below are some questions related to our curriculum which might help guide your conversation.  Choose one or two at a time for a meaningful conversation.

  1. What is Accountable Talk like in your classroom?
  2. What does it mean to have a Growth Mindset?
  3. What is Writing and Reading Workshop?  How does it work in your classroom?
  4. What do you do when you shop for books?
  5. What are some the reading or writing strategies you are trying in order to be a better reader/writer?
  6. Can you tell me about Genius Hour?
  7. What is the 4 star rubric you use in math?
  8. Can you tell me about some of the vocabulary words (Word of the Day) you are talking about in your classroom?
  9. What is GoNoodle

First Trimester Vocabulary - Word of the Day!

Take a moment to have a conversation with your child using some of the vocabulary words we have been working on in the classroom. The Word Of The Day is designed to grow vocabulary for oral discussion, word work,  and to use within our writing and reading.  Word choice includes curriculum we are studying, words that build character, citizenship, and personal responsibility.

First Trimester Word Of The Day

joy, smile, kind, listen, think, family, friend, play, light, shadow, courage, orbit, autumn, change, earth, season, moon, respect, reflection, pumpkin, equal, persistent, responsible, trust, belong, caring
